President-elect Donald Trump is set to continue military aid to Ukraine, according to the *Financial Times*. This move, confirmed by three anonymous sources, offers reassurance to Western allies relying on Washington’s support to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.
Recently, senior British officials visited Washington to gauge Trump’s stance on the conflict. While he opposes Ukraine’s NATO membership, he envisions ending the war swiftly and believes that arming Kyiv after a ceasefire can ensure “peace through strength.” His broader plan includes pushing NATO countries to significantly increase their defense spending, aiming for 5% of GDP—far above the current 2% target, which only 23 out of 32 members currently meet.
Trump has promised to end Russia’s war on Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office, pledging direct talks with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to broker peace. As part of this initiative, his future Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, will visit Kyiv in January, where Ukrainian officials are eager to present their vision for a just and lasting peace.
